General Maintenance for All Tesla Models

Tire Care

  • Tires naturally break down over time due to heat, UV exposure, and driving conditions
  • Tesla recommends replacing tires every 6 years, even if the tread looks good
  • Tires can be replaced in pairs; matching tread patterns is ideal

Understanding Tesla Model Updates

Tesla uses terms like "refresh," "late model," and project codenames to describe updates to their vehicles. Here's what those terms actually mean:

  • Model S & Model X "Refresh" / Palladium

    • In late 2021, Tesla released a major redesign of the Model S and Model X
    • This update is often called the "Palladium" refresh
    • Features include a new interior, updated motors, and improved performance
    • The presence of a yoke steering wheel does not automatically mean it's a refresh, because Tesla later added a steering wheel option
  • Model 3 Late Model / Highland

    • Newer Model 3s with black exterior trim and an updated center console are considered "late models"
    • In 2024, Tesla released a major update called "Highland", which includes exterior styling changes, updated interior features, and improved efficiency
  • Model Y Late Model / Juniper

    • A "late model" Model Y includes upgrades such as the Biohazard / HEPA cabin filtration system, starting around 2022
    • Tesla is expected to release a major update called "Juniper" around 2025, likely mirroring many of the changes introduced in the Highland Model 3
